Visually Impaired Merthyr Tydfil.
The society promotes and provides services and help for all visually impaired residents throughout the county borough of Merthyr Tydfil.
We meet on the second monday of each month except January, February and August, in the vestry of market square chapel, off Lower High Street in the town centre. The usual time is 2pm till 3.45pm, but times should be checked in case of a special meeting. The purpose is to learn how to live better despite sight loss, and to promote the welfare of other visually impaired people in our community.
We publish a quarterly newsletter, sending it as requested in large print or as a cd. We telephone, on a monthly basis, people who wish us to keep in contact. We can give advice and support to blind and partially sighted people and their relatives, often allaying a great deal of anxiety, and speeding up essential help. We also like to hear from people who are worried about their sight and are not registered. We have good relations with social services and complement their role. We are partners with the large Cardiff, Vale and Valleys Institute for the Blind so all possible help is available.

Annual General Meeting.
Monday September 13. Annual General Meeting, starting with buffet at 1.30pm. As Market Square chapel vestry is being refurbished, the venue will be confirmed by September, but the work should be complete by then.
Open Day at the MIDEC Centre.
29 September, 10.30 to 2.30. The centre includes a sensory rehabilitation room, with equipment to assess, and demonstrate to, people with sight or hearing loss. There is also a smart house, with apparatus on view which can prolong independent living, especially for people with long term illness or age related problems. Take the bridge into Cefn Coed, after passing Cyrarthfa Park, and turn left at the mini roundabout, then follow signs. Buffet provided. A mini bus service will be available from the side of the old Tax office, opposite the bus station. Check transport times a week before the event. We are excited about this as VIM has had a lot of input into the development.
