Sight Cymru COVID-19 ring-around service

Since the first lockdown in March, Sight Cymru has been providing a ring-around service, and other services to help ease the feelings of loneliness and isolation felt by people with sight loss in south Wales.

The majority of the charity's service users fall amongst the most vulnerable, so they started a COVID-19 ring-around service, making around 500-700 welfare calls every week, which have become a lifeline for some people. With some funding support from the Welsh Government Voluntary Services Emergency Fund (VSEF) dedicated Emotional Support Officers were recruited to make regular contact with those in need.

In addition to these services, Sight Cymru is operating virtual and teleconferencing meet-ups for their clubs and groups, operating a general ring-around and a talking news service to ensure that they can maintain a support network and ensure people have regular contact with others.
