Telephone Visiting Service

Welcome | About the Association | Executive Committee | Grants | Local Clubs | Telephone Visiting Service | Rehabilitation and Support Service

The Ceredigion Association for the Blind provides a telephone visiting service for blind and partially sighted persons. The service, which was first introduced in April 2005, involves a monthly telephone call to registered blind persons in Ceredigion, particularly those in most need of support. It is a social call combined with checking whether they need any assistance from Social Services or have any concerns in relation to their health or other matters. Any requests and concerns are then passed on to the appropriate person or organisation.

The service is based in Llwyncelyn Memorial Hall where dedicated telephone lines have been installed for the use of the volunteers operating the telephone visiting service. The service is currently run by three teams of volunteers. Each team consists a supervisor and registered blind persons, who come from various locations throughout Ceredigion. The three supervisors are Ceinwen Davies, Eirlys Evans and Mair Rees. The phone calls are made by the registered blind volunteers, each of whom have a list of their own clients to call each month, in order to ensure continuity.

Clients are referred to the supervisors by two Rehabilitation Officers for the Visually Impaired who are employed by the Social Services Department of Ceredigion County Council

If you know of someone who could benefit from this service and would like to receive a regular call, please contact one of the Rehabilitation Officers, using the council’s Single Point of Access phone line (see Rehabilitation and Support Service page). The Rehabilitation Officer will then refer an eligible client to one of our Telephone Visiting Service Supervisors.
